The Visual and Performing Arts at Middleburg Academy
Middleburg Academy students enjoy excellent programs in both the visual and performing arts. Students participate in community exhibitions, competitions, museum visits, field trips and concerts. Over five hundred students have exhibited their art at the Byrne Gallery in Middleburg, with many also benefiting from gallery internships. Students visit museums in Washington, D.C., as well as those outside the state such as MOMA in New York and The Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.
The Theatre Department offers a broad curriculum covering acting, improvisation, scenic design, directing, and playwriting. Students perform two mainstage shows per year. The students also organize and manage their own comedy and improvisation troupe.
The school has many gifted and talented musicians including an award-winning pianist who attends classes at the Juilliard School in New York on Saturdays. Both choral students and students who play musical instruments perform at least two concerts each year at Middleburg Academy. Students perform in various ensembles such as chorus, band, strings, guitar, and orchestra.
Given the superb facilities (3,600 square feet of studio art space) and a bucolic campus, students who study art at Middleburg Academy relish their experiences. Many former students/graduates are studying art in college or pursuing an art related career. Enrolled and flourishing at prestigious art schools and colleges as The School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Parsons, Tyler and The Corcoran College of Art and Design, Cornell and the University of Virginia. Former students attribute their experiences at Middleburg Academy as having a significant impact on their decision to pursue an art related career.
Many students enjoy participating in a wide variety of the visual and performing arts at Middleburg Academy.
Appreciation of and participation in the arts is considered an important part of the development of a student's character at the Academy and they are encouraged to pursue their interests.
